Functional abdominal pain – not otherwise specified is considered to be abdominal pain that:
- presents at least once a week in the last 2 months
- is episodic or continuous
- may or may not be related with meals or with defecation (going to the toilet [for a poo]),
- does not meet sufficient criteria to label it as irritable bowel syndrome, dyspepsia or abdominal migraine, and
- symptoms cannot be attributed to another disease, after a proper medical evaluation.
