Wheat allergy

Wheat allergy is an immune reaction to the proteins in wheat, including gluten. The symptoms that it causes are very different to coeliac disease and non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, and common to other food allergies: reactions in the skin (hives, swelling), digestive tract (vomiting), respiratory tract (rhinitis, asthma) and conjunctiva (redness and itching of the eyes) and anaphylaxis.

It is diagnosed with skin and blood tests, and sometimes an oral challenge test has to be performed.

The treatment is the exclusion of wheat from the diet.
